PCH Malibu Bluffs Mediterranean Ocean View Full Remodel
Situated at the top of the Malibu Bluff, with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, this Spanish Mediterranean style home was originally constructed in 1999. In order to take better advantage of its stunning location, and to upgrade the architectural finishes to a level more commensurate with a home of significance, a complete remodel was undertaken. Customized touches can be found throughout, including the kitchen’s impressive hand-troweled plaster hood, constructed with structural beams of weathered antique oak. Custom built-in cabinetry provides elegant storage in nearly every room, and a comprehensive smart home system allows for easy and full control over all aspects of the home’s functionality – from climate control to lighting, security to entertainment.
Working in close collaboration with Chapman Design, of Houston, Home Front Build transformed the home inside and out, leaving virtually no surface untouched. All interior walls and ceilings received hand-troweled plaster with a soap finish, resulting in surfaces that have a shell-like luminosity. Flooring throughout is either antique French limestone or hand-scraped European white oak planks. Moroccan tiles, antique limestone pavers and river pebbles line the walls, floors and showers of the guest baths, while countertops are fabricated of either honed white Turkish marble in the kitchen and bathrooms, 3” antique limestone in the bar areas or lightly patterned quartzite in the laundry.
All windows and doors of the home have been upgraded, providing both enhanced sound and thermal insulation as well as optimizing views and natural light penetration. The Living Room and Master Bedroom and Master Bath were outfitted with an engineered folding door system, allowing for virtually seamless integration of interior and exterior spaces – as well as maximal views of the ocean horizon.
