Shelby Roberts is an artist who currently splits his time between lecturing in photography at the University of California at Irvine and working as a Designer at Home Front.

Shelby's interest in materials began with his studies in sculpture at the Kansas City Art Institute, the New School in New York City and the School of Visual Arts.  He later earned a MFA in sculpture from the California Insitiute of the Arts.  Although his training is in the sculpted form, his current artistic practice focuses on photography and documenting how the built environment alters or creates narrative.  In his role as a designer Shelby not only draws on this rich background in materials (wood, stone, metal) but also on this interest in how design tells a narrative, a story.  It's the story of how the client's lifestlye and existing built environment informs the final design, not just the materials.
