Wood siding from the craftsman period often had mill marks or pronounced grain which were highly valued for their rustic look. Originally, the old growth redwood siding and trim were stained. Over the years, many layers of paint have been added. Most painters today will sand the paint off, but such a process destroys a kind of wood siding that is unavailable in this day and age. At Home Front, we strip the old paint off by hand and supplement the original stain that is often intact under all those layers of paint.
